Hello Portland,
We just arrive to the beautiful city of Portland in order to attend Portland Comic Con.
This is not only our first convention of the year, but is also our first convention in Portland.
This convention only lasts for 2.5 days but we are very excited to attend.
Now we eat, tomorrow we explore.

When we moved to Seattle on September of last year, we knew we will be unable to attend several traditional events back in L.A.. One of those events is our beloved Little Tokyo's New Year celebration.
But now that we are living up here, we have found a couple of events that will become a new tradition.
The first one was held at this past Sunday, January 5th across the water from us on Bainbridge Island.
The Bainbridge Island Japanese American Community (BIJAC) held this event called "Mochi Tsuki", to celebrate the new year by sharing the tradition of making and eating the sweet rice treat called mochi.
The mochi you eat was actually made right there; they had two stations to steam rice, then any attendant could volunteer to pound the rice with wooden mallets to later be taken to a building with lots of experienced cooks make the final product.
Three great Taiko performances were held during the day and overall Kim and I had a great time enjoying hot tea, and fresh sweet mochi. We will back next year for sure.
Take a look at the photos and videos we took.
The second event is a surprise since I have not told Kim what it is or where it's at, she only knows is the first weekend of February... stay tuned.

My lovely wife and our great friend Azusa conspired to give me a fantastic surprise when I got home from work today.
Let's just say my EVA cred had been increased by 100 points at least.
Thank you very much.

FUNimation just released a list of theaters in the U.S. and Canada that will be showing the third installment of the Evangelion saga - You Can (Not) Redo.
Is the city where you live in the list?

The Last Unicorn is one of our all time favorite stories.
Conlan Press and Peter S. Beagle himself are on the move from now until the end of 2015 going around the country show-casting in the big screen in digital format The Last Unicorn movie.
We got tickets to see it this past Monday in a theater near our place...
While we lived in California we were members of the JACCC (Japanese American Cultural & Community Center) in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. And we attended multiple events like the New Year's day celebration, Kabuki performances, Sumo tournaments and a plethora of cultural events.
Now that we have moved to Seattle we found its sister organization, the JCCCW (Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington) and by sheer coincidence they were celebrating their sixth annual Bunka no Hi "Culture Day" event at the beginning of November.
While we were walking Wi-Fi, we were lucky enough to witness how real Seattleites commute.

Commuting in Seattle
At the Tacoma Dome it was held an exhibition of about 50 different dinosaurs, the majority of them were animated like the ones you can see at the Jurassic Park theme rides.
Besides the dinosaur exhibition there were jumping castles, face painting, and lost of carnival style games.
Even when we saw all the dinosaurs in less than 1 hour, it was worth it. See pictures and videos here
