Warriors Tombs and Temples (2)

February 20, 2012

The terra cotta army represented the honor guard of the emperor and was located to the east of his mausoleum, the direction from which crossbows and long-handled weapons, cavalrymen, and chariots, all in battle formation.

More than 1,000 such figures have been excavated from what has been named Pit 1, and the estimate is that there are another 6,000 yet to be recovered.

The realism of these life-sized figures and their sheer numbers have earned the terra cotta army the title of eighth wonder of the ancient world.

Today we visited the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana.

The exhibition draws on some of the most important excavations from the burial complexes of emperors, the tombs of the royal family members, tombs of elite individual, and the magnificent deposits placed into the Famen monastery treasure crypt.

A Happy New Chinese Year to All.

I know, I know, last Monday was the actual Chinese New Year but today, Chinatown is going to held its traditional new year's parade.

It is just 10:00am, we are already here with our chairs and equipment and the Parade is schedule to start at 1:00pm... I guess we are a little bit early.

Come on down here and join us in the celebration of the year of the Dragon.
