The terra cotta army represented the honor guard of the emperor and was located to the east of his mausoleum, the direction from which crossbows and long-handled weapons, cavalrymen, and chariots, all in battle formation.
More than 1,000 such figures have been excavated from what has been named Pit 1, and the estimate is that there are another 6,000 yet to be recovered.The realism of these life-sized figures and their sheer numbers have earned the terra cotta army the title of eighth wonder of the ancient world.Roberto Ramirez
